About
Welcome to The Flint House, a captivating culinary gem nestled in the heart of Brighton and Hove at 13 Hanningtons Lane. This vibrant establishment promises an unforgettable dining experience that blends outstanding food with friendly service in an inviting atmosphere.
Imagine starting your meal with their house-made focaccia paired with garlic and parsley butter—a delightful nod to the traditional bread basket, reimagined for the modern palate. As you savor each bite, you'll be introduced to a trio of amuse bouches: Beetroot & Goats Cheese Croquette, Ham Croquette, and Sweet Corn Fritter, each paired with bespoke flavored mayonnaises, delivering an explosion of flavors and textures. Diners have praised the light, fluffy nature of these small bites, though some suggest a sprinkle of salt could elevate the corn fritters to new heights.
The main courses at The Flint House shine brightly, particularly the Soy and BBQ Braised Short Rib served with creamy mash and red cabbage slaw. This dish stands out for its savory depth, perfectly meeting the desires of salt enthusiasts while offering thoughtful pairings for those with gentler palates. Customers recommend complementing the richness of the short rib with the refreshing crunch of red cabbage slaw, or perhaps exploring variations that introduce sweetness and spice.
No meal at The Flint House would be complete without indulging in their desserts. The Lemon and Blackberry Posset, with its impeccably sharp and velvety texture, is a refreshing conclusion to any meal. Accompanied by white chocolate Brazil nuts and cream, it offers a touch of sweetness that balances beautifully with the tartness of the berries.

“ My partner and I recently attended The Flint House as part of their OctoberBEST Set Menu promotion. The staff were incredibly attentive and amicable. It seemed every staff member we spoke to was aware of our dietary requirements, making me feel safe and at ease despite my allergy being a component of one of the dishes. To start we had house focaccia with garlic and parsley butter, a modern twist on the classic bread basket. Both components of this dish were delicious, and if we could purchase either on our way out we would have. We then enjoyed a trio of amuse bouche comprising Beetroot & Goats Cheese Croquette, Ham Croquette and Sweet corn fritter, all served with their own bespoke flavored mayonnaises. We loved these as they were flavourful, light and fluffy. Our only comment was that a little additional salt would set the corn fritter alive and the goats cheese was a funky as a Friday night at Casablanca's! Not for the faint of heart! For our main we enjoyed the Soy and BBQ Braised Short Rib served with Creamy Mash and Red Cabbage Slaw. This dish was impeccable. As a salt loving girly, this ticked all my boxes! However, for my partner, who is a tad salt-averse, he did find the soy braise a little much. I think a larger portion of the red cabbage slaw, or even a braised red cabbage with added sweetness and spice, could certainly assist those who don't have the perfect palate that I boast. The finale was a Lemon and Blackberry Posset served with White Chocolate Brazil Nuts and Cream. The posset was perfectly set and beautifully sharp, with the blackberry and cream there to support. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, the maitre d was welcoming and polite, and all other staff we encountered were wonderfully pleasant. Overall, we had a fantastic evening and would very much recommend The Flint House. ”
“ Loved the experience here! The small plates are perfect for sharing, and the rooftop terrace adds a special touch. My favorites? The sweetcorn fritters and confit potatoes — so delicious! The service was very friendly and I'm looking forward to visiting this place soon again. ”
“ I made a last minute dinner booking reservation at The Flint House and am so glad that I chose this restaurant. Four of us had the chefs tasting menu and my son had the sunday roast, the food was delicious and very good value. Our waitress was excellent too. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. ”
“ If Jay Rayner likes it, does that mean I should like it? Turns out the answer is yes. The small plates appear fast, and are brought to the table as they are ready. Each one is presented beautifully but without too much fuss, and all tastes very good. Our surprise favourite was the salted cod dish. Also, the corn fritters had the best corn taste I’ve ever had in fritters. I highly recommend the Sea Breeze mocktail too. A very satisfying experience all round, even though this place is very cool and knows it. ”
“ Really good place! we had the Tempura Enoki Mushroom, the Teriyaki Glazed Aubergine and Roast Cod with Fried New Potatoes: DELICIOUS ”
“ Creative and quality food, great teamwork which is a delight to watch. Especially loved the courgette starter and cod, but all dishes were strong so recommend getting the chef’s menu ”
“ My first time trying the Sunday Roast (at all) and it was amazing, especially the cauliflower and cheese croquettes and gravy. The staff were friendly and on the ball. The cocktail (GLYK'O) was also very tasty but small. Service is included in the bill. ”
“ The five course tasting menu was great and very reasonably priced compared to nearby alternatives. The front of house was quite abrupt and rude, but thankfully the table service was friendly. There is also a nice selection of wines to choose from, and a relaxed atmosphere upstairs. ”
